World Mental Health Day 2025: Mental Health Is a Universal Human Right
October 10th marks World Mental Health Day, a global observance led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness, promote understanding, and advocate for better mental health care for all. This year’s theme, “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right,” reminds us that mental well-being is not a privilege—it’s a fundamental right that everyone deserves.
Why It Matters
Mental health affects every aspect of our lives—from how we think and feel to how we connect with others and navigate challenges. Yet millions still face barriers to care, stigma, and discrimination. World Mental Health Day is a call to action to:
Break the silence around mental health struggles.
Promote access to care and support systems.
Foster inclusive environments where everyone feels safe to speak up.
How You Can Support
Start a conversation: Check in with a friend, colleague, or loved one.
Educate yourself: Learn about mental health conditions and how to support others.
Advocate: Support policies and initiatives that prioritise mental health in schools, workplaces, and communities.
St Martin’s:
Previously in St Martins we have done activities focusing on mental health and well-being. We planted Unwins Broad Beans, the aim of the session was to promote emotional well-being, encourage healthy habits, and foster engagement through group participation.
The group discussed several key topics related to mental health and daily well-being, such as: healthy diet, managing money and debt, understanding emotions and being open to new experiences. The activity created meaningful opportunities for reflection, open discussion, and connection. Those who took part found the session valuable and were encouraged to explore new habits and perspectives to support their mental health and well-being.
Other activities included taking residents to the park and the café to encourage a discussion around mental health and well-being. As well as having important conversations, the intention was to give residents a feeling and a sense of ‘community’ as per the theme this year.
Final Thought
Mental health is just as important as physical health. On this World Mental Health Day, let’s commit to creating a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive—mentally, emotionally, and socially
